2024 Bootcamp

The inaugural session of the CKLDP (Christopher Kelly Leadership and Development Program) for the year 2024 was a dynamic and inspiring event that set the tone for a year of growth, learning, and collaboration. On Friday, January 8, the current co-chairs, Danielle Encela and Thomas Masino, welcomed the incoming class. The session kicked off with a comprehensive overview of the program's rich history, highlighting its evolution and impact over the years. The co-chairs eloquently outlined the goals and expectations for the upcoming year, emphasizing the importance of leadership and career development in today's dynamic world.

Following brief introductions from the advisory committee, the sixteen scholars were tasked with delivering a 60-second Pecha Kucha presentation. This activity prompted scholars to select three images: one describing themselves, one representing the type of leader they are, and an image symbolizing the type of leader they aspire to become in the future. This creative and concise format allowed for a rapid exchange of personal stories and aspirations, fostering a sense of connection among the participants.

After the Pecha Kucha presentations, the class was briefed on this year’s session themes and the topics they would be studying and preparing for throughout the year. The co-chairs provided information on session planning and documentation requirements, as well as the tools available to them.

To initiate the afternoon’s leadership discussion, keynote speaker Kathryn Slattery, AIA, lead a discussion on the topic “Finding Your Path”. As a scholar from CKLDP's inaugural program a decade ago, Kathryn reflected on the transformative moments in her career, both before and after participating in the program. Her personal anecdotes and professional milestones served as a source of inspiration, resonating with the scholars and reinforcing the program's impact on long-term career trajectories.

To conclude the day, the session transitioned into a collaborative brainstorming session, where scholars actively contributed ideas for expanding on the various session topics. This exercise demonstrated the collective intelligence within the group but also set the stage for collaborative learning and exploration throughout the program. Each scholar shared their expectations for the upcoming sessions, fostering a sense of shared commitment and enthusiasm for the journey ahead.
