CKLDP’s first official session of the 2021 year was held virtually on Friday, January 8. Current chair Daniel Blair led the events for the afternoon and began the session by welcoming the incoming class. The session provided an overview of the program history and a summary of goals and expectations for the year.
To kick off the leadership discussion for the afternoon, keynote speaker Shannon Kraus, FAIA, shared his presentation ‘Leaders Wanted (Apply Within)’, looking at the concept of servant leadership. His talk, which was based on his TED Talk, described a leader as someone who focuses on people, shares power, and puts the needs of others first.
After the presentation, the sixteen scholars were asked to deliver a Pecha Kucha presentation in 60 seconds, with 3 images: one to describe themselves, one representing the type of leader they are, and an image representing the type of leader they want to become in the future.
Following the Pecha Kucha, the class learned about this year’s session themes and what sessions they would be tasked with studying and preparing for this year. The session then expanded to brainstorming discussions virtually for each session using online collaboration tools to share ideas.
